In February of 2019, my son, Joseph was in his first year of college in San Luis Obispo, California when he contracted meningitis B and died within a few hours of the onset of symptoms. I thought Joseph was fully protected because he was immunized with the meningitis ACWY vaccine. It wasn’t until after his death that I learned he was not fully protected. Joseph had never been immunized with the meningitis B vaccine and our family had no idea the vaccine even existed.
