Karla Loken, DO
Board Member

Dr. Karla Loken is a Board Certified OBGYN and a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She has over 20 years of experience in women’s healthcare, as a provider and now as an industry professional. Dr. Loken obtained her undergraduate degree at Augustana College in Rock Island Illinois, followed by medical school in Des Moines, Iowa. She completed a traditional internship at Garden City Hospital in Michigan and her OBGYN residency at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan.

Dr. Loken built a successful community practice including several industry relationships as a device proctor and speaker, and Medical School associate instructor in Northern Colorado. She joined an academic practice as the Clinic Director and DaVinci instructor for the OBGYN residency at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Dr Loken has also served on the board of the Indiana vaccine coalition for 10 years and is passionate about HPV and meningitis vaccines and is a national speaker for vaccine advocacy. Dr. Loken lost her sister at age 16 to meningitis in 1988 and has been a fierce advocate for vaccines & disease prevention across her life and career.

Dr. Loken after a major car accident transferred a career in industry. Karla was first a Medical Advisor at Eli Lilly in Pharmacy safety working on adverse events across a diverse pipeline. This led to her next role at Hologic where she was the Director of Clinical Affairs for the GYN surgery division, which included global safety for all GYN surgical devices, clinical trial oversight, engineering collaboration, and medical affairs. She also directed the clinical integration of the Acessa acquisition. She has worked with Roche as a Disease Area Partner for of Cervical Cancer and Pre-Eclampsia. She was also the CMO for FEMSelect ltd. an Israeli-based medical device company focused on pelvic organ prolapse and continues as a strategic director.

Her current role is Vice President of Medical Affairs and Clinical Operations at HerMd, which is a national women’s health startup company focusing on women’s health menopause, and sexual dysfunction and offering focused visits, in-office surgical procedures, ultrasound, and telehealth.

Dr. Loken is also the founder of an independent consulting agency focused on helping physicians navigate nonclinical roles and startups to partner with physicians as consultants. She is a dedicated champion and advisor of many startups in women’s health. She is the administrator for Non-Clinical Careers for OBGYN group.

Most importantly she is the proud wife and mom of three young men in college and happily spends time on remodeling projects with her husband and two dogs.
